Pick the activity, then the bachelor party destination
A trip built around one main event is easier to plan and easier to sell to the group. "Golf in Scottsdale" gets more replies than "somewhere fun in March." Start with the groom's favorite thing and use this table to find the places that do it well:
| If the groom loves | Go to |
|---|---|
| Golf | Scottsdale, Myrtle Beach, Dublin for links courses |
| Fishing | Destin, Bozeman, San Diego |
| Whitewater and mountain biking | Moab, Colorado, Queenstown |
| Skiing or snowboarding | Lake Tahoe, Banff, Big Sky, Colorado |
| Baseball | Boston, Chicago, San Diego, spring training in Arizona |
| Hockey | Montreal, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Prague |
| Bourbon or whiskey | Louisville, Dublin |
| Beer | Prague, San Diego, Denver |
| Barbecue | Austin |
| Shows and a big night | Las Vegas |
| Adrenaline | Queenstown, Moab |
Want ideas for what to do once you're there, or a plan that stays close to home? Our bachelor party ideas cover activities and budgets. This page is all about where to go.
Tip: Ask the groom for one "must do" and one "please no." The must do decides the place, the please no saves you from booking something he'll pretend to enjoy.
Golf and sun
Two places where a tee time is the reason for the trip and the rest of the weekend falls into place around it.
1. Scottsdale, Arizona
- Best forgolfers, baseball fans, pool days
- TimeOctober to April
- WhereArizona
Scottsdale and the Phoenix area have desert courses in every direction, plus reliable sunshine when it's cold back home. In spring, baseball's training camps come to town, so you can watch a game in the afternoon after golf in the morning.
- Play a round on a desert course, ideally with an early tee time
- Watch a spring training game in late February or March
- See the Suns in nearby Phoenix during basketball season
- Take an off-road tour through the Sonoran Desert
- End the night in Old Town, where everything is walkable
Good to know: summer heat often passes 100ยฐF, so golf becomes a sunrise-only plan. The PGA Tour event in February at TPC Scottsdale is one of the loudest golf tournaments around and fills the hotels.
2. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
- Best forgolf groups, drive-to trips on the East Coast
- TimeMarch to May, September to November
- WhereSouth Carolina
Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand are known for golf, with dozens of courses along a long stretch of beach. Groups often play two rounds a day. It's within driving distance for much of the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic, which keeps travel simple.
- Plan a golf trip with one course per day, or two for the hardcore
- Book a deep-sea fishing trip for the day off the course
- Hold a mini golf tournament on one of the themed courses (there are many)
- Rent a beach house and grill on the deck
Good to know: spring and fall are prime golf seasons and fill up first. Summer is beach season, with more families and hotter rounds.
Great bachelor party locations in the mountains
For groups who'd rather be tired from a river than from a bar. Plan one guided activity per day and a big dinner, and book guides early in peak season.
3. Denver and the Colorado mountains
- Best foroutdoor groups, beer fans, year-round
- Timeall year: rafting in summer, skiing in winter
- WhereColorado
Denver gives you a city base with breweries and a ballpark, and the mountains start within an hour. It's one of the few bachelor party destinations that works in every season: rafting and hiking in summer, skiing from about December to April.
- Watch the Rockies at Coors Field in summer
- See a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, carved into the rocks west of the city
- Go whitewater rafting on Clear Creek or the Arkansas River
- Spend a weekend skiing in Breckenridge or Vail
- Do a brewery crawl in Denver's RiNo neighborhood
Good to know: the altitude hits harder than people expect, especially with beer. Drink water on day one. Rafting is best from late spring into summer when the snowmelt is high.
4. Lake Tahoe, California and Nevada
- Best forlake days in summer, skiers in winter
- TimeJune to September, December to March
- WhereCalifornia and Nevada
Lake Tahoe is two trips in one. In summer you rent a boat and jump into very clear, very cold water. In winter the same cabin becomes a ski lodge. The Nevada side adds casinos if the group wants a night out.
- Rent a boat for a day and anchor in Emerald Bay
- Ski at Heavenly or Palisades Tahoe
- Ride the Flume Trail, a famous mountain bike trail high above the lake
- Kayak or paddleboard along the shore at sunrise
- Try a poker night at a casino in Stateline
Good to know: the Reno airport is about an hour away. Winter storms can close mountain roads, so pack chains and patience.
5. Moab, Utah
- Best formountain bikers, adrenaline fans
- TimeMarch to May, September to October
- WhereUtah
Moab is the bachelor party destination for groups who want to come home with a few bruises and great photos. Two national parks, the Colorado River and some of the best-known mountain bike trails in the US are all close to town.
- Ride the Slickrock Trail (for experienced riders, or book a guide for easier trails)
- Raft or float the Colorado River
- Take a guided jeep or side-by-side tour on the backcountry trails
- Hike in Arches or Canyonlands National Park
- Try canyoneering with a guide
Good to know: Moab is a long drive from the nearest big airports, so plan three nights. Arches dropped timed entry reservations for 2026 but can hold cars at the gate when it gets crowded, so go early and check the park's website for the current rules. Summer days are very hot.
6. Bozeman and Big Sky, Montana
- Best forfly fishers, skiers, small groups
- TimeJune to September, December to March
- WhereMontana
For a groom who'd rather stand in a river than in a club. Bozeman is a lively college town with good food, Big Sky is a ski resort about an hour south and Yellowstone is within driving range. Fly fishing with a guide is the classic plan.
- Book a guided fly fishing day on the Gallatin or Madison River
- Raft the Gallatin River in summer
- Ski or snowboard at Big Sky in winter
- Take a day trip into Yellowstone National Park
- Soak in a hot spring after a long day outside
Good to know: Bozeman's airport has flights from many big US hubs. Guides book up early for summer weekends.
7. Banff, Alberta
- Best forhikers, skiers, scenery lovers
- TimeJune to September, December to March
- WhereAlberta, Canada
Banff sits inside a national park in the Canadian Rockies and looks like a postcard from every angle. Summer is for hiking and canoes, winter for three ski areas within an hour of town. It's about an hour and a half by car from the Calgary airport.
- Ride the gondola up Sulphur Mountain
- Rent a canoe on Lake Louise
- Ski at Banff Sunshine, Mt. Norquay or Lake Louise
- Soak at the Banff Upper Hot Springs
- Hike to a teahouse or a lookout above the lakes
Good to know: you need a park pass. Private cars can't drive up to Moraine Lake anymore: you take a Parks Canada shuttle or a licensed tour. US guests need a passport.
The best cities for a bachelor party built around a game
A home game gives the weekend a fixed point that everyone looks forward to. Check the schedule before you poll for dates.
8. Chicago, Illinois
- Best forbaseball fans, foodies, city lovers
- TimeMay to September
- WhereIllinois
Chicago in summer is one of the best bachelor party spots in the Midwest. A day game at Wrigley Field, a boat on the river and a deep-dish pizza is a full Saturday. In fall and winter, the city's football, basketball and hockey teams take over.
- Catch a Cubs game at Wrigley Field and stay in Wrigleyville afterward
- Take an architecture boat tour on the Chicago River
- Eat deep-dish pizza and a Chicago-style hot dog (no ketchup)
- See an improv show in the city that made improv famous
- Bike the lakefront trail along Lake Michigan
Good to know: winters are cold and windy, so outside of summer plan around indoor games and food.
9. Montreal, Quebec
- Best forhockey fans, food lovers
- TimeMay to September, or hockey season
- WhereQuebec, Canada
Montreal feels like a trip to Europe without the long flight. Hockey is close to a religion here, and a Canadiens game at the Bell Centre is the loudest thing you'll do all weekend. The food is serious and very un-fancy.
- See the Canadiens at the Bell Centre during hockey season
- Eat smoked meat, bagels and poutine
- Walk the cobblestones of Old Montreal
- Hike up Mount Royal for the view over the city
- Time it with the Formula 1 weekend in late spring if the groom is a racing fan
Good to know: US guests need a passport to fly. Winters are very cold, so plan hockey weekends around indoor time.
10. Boston, Massachusetts
- Best forsports fans, history buffs, seafood lovers
- TimeApril to October
- WhereMassachusetts
Boston has teams in all four big leagues and fans who take every game personally. Fenway Park opened in 1912 and is the oldest ballpark in the major leagues, Green Monster and all. Between games you're never far from the harbor or a lobster roll.
- Watch the Red Sox at Fenway Park, or take the ballpark tour on a day without a game
- See the Bruins or the Celtics in the colder months
- Walk the Freedom Trail through the old city
- Book a sunset sail or a fishing trip in Boston Harbor
- Settle the lobster roll debate: warm with butter or cold with mayo
Good to know: hotels get scarce on big college weekends like graduation in May and during the Boston Marathon in April.
Fishing and the coast
A boat day solves a lot: everyone's together, nobody's on their phone and there's a story at the end.
11. Destin, Florida
- Best forfishing groups, beach days
- TimeApril to October (hurricane season from June)
- WhereFlorida
Destin on the Florida Panhandle has a big charter fishing fleet in its harbor and white sand beaches right next to it. Groups split the weekend into one fishing day and one boat day, then grill whatever they caught.
- Book a deep-sea fishing charter from Destin Harbor
- Anchor a rented pontoon at Crab Island, a shallow sandbar where boats gather
- Spend a beach day on the Gulf
- Bring your fillets to a harbor restaurant that cooks the catch (several offer this)
Good to know: what you can keep depends on season and species, and the captain knows the rules. Hurricane season runs from June to November.
12. San Diego, California
- Best forsurfers, beer fans, mild weather all year
- Timeall year (cloudy mornings in May and June)
- WhereCalifornia
San Diego has mild weather almost all year, a big craft beer scene and the ocean on every side. It's a laid-back choice for groups who want activity by day and a relaxed night.
- Take a group surf lesson in Pacific Beach or La Jolla
- Kayak to the sea caves at La Jolla
- Book a sportfishing trip from Point Loma
- Watch the Padres at Petco Park, then walk the Gaslamp Quarter
- Do a brewery tour across the city's beer neighborhoods
Good to know: locals call it May Gray and June Gloom: early summer mornings are often cloudy. The water stays cool, so rent wetsuits for surfing.
Food, barbecue and bourbon
For grooms who plan vacations around meals. Book a driver for any tasting day.
13. Austin, Texas
- Best forbarbecue fans, lake days, sports fans
- TimeMarch to May, October to November
- WhereTexas
Austin for a bachelor party is about barbecue, water and live music. Line up for brisket in the morning, spend the afternoon on a boat and finish with a band. In fall, college football and the Formula 1 race add a sports angle.
- Do a barbecue crawl and accept that the famous spots have lines
- Rent a boat on Lake Travis
- Float the river in New Braunfels, about an hour south
- See a Longhorns football game in the fall
- Go to the Formula 1 race at the Circuit of the Americas in the fall
Good to know: summer is very hot. Big event weekends, like the race or a festival, fill the city fast.
14. Louisville, Kentucky
- Best forbourbon fans, horse racing, food lovers
- TimeApril to June, September to October
- WhereKentucky
Louisville is the gateway to bourbon country. You can tour distilleries downtown, then drive out to Bardstown and the rest of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Add a day at the horse races and you have a weekend that feels like a real trip, not just a party.
- Visit distilleries on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, with a driver
- Spend a day at the races at Churchill Downs
- Take the factory tour at the Louisville Slugger Museum
- Visit the Muhammad Ali Center
- Try a Hot Brown, the city's open-faced turkey sandwich
Good to know: the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May is the busiest weekend of the year. Check the racing calendar for other race days.
Shows and a big night
15. Las Vegas, Nevada
- Best forbig groups, shows, pool days
- TimeMarch to May, September to November
- WhereNevada
Las Vegas is still a top bachelor party destination because everything is in one place and nothing closes. The best Vegas weekends mix the Strip with things most groups forget about: pro sports, golf and some striking desert scenery half an hour away.
- See a big show, a comedy headliner or a concert
- Watch the Golden Knights (NHL) or the Raiders (NFL) at home
- Spend a pool day in the warmer months
- Drive out to Red Rock Canyon or the Hoover Dam
- Play a round of golf in the morning before it gets hot
Good to know: summer is extremely hot. Set a casino budget per person before you land and stick to it.
Bachelor party destinations abroad
A passport trip needs more lead time and more money. For UK and Irish groups, our stag do ideas cover destinations closer to home.
16. Dublin, Ireland
- Best forpub lovers, sports fans, golfers
- TimeMay to September, big matches until July
- WhereIreland
Dublin has direct flights from many US cities, a pub on every corner and a sport most Americans have never seen live. A hurling or Gaelic football match at Croke Park is fast, loud and something the groom will talk about for years.
- Watch a hurling or Gaelic football match at Croke Park (the championship runs from spring to the finals in July)
- Visit the Guinness Storehouse
- Find a pub with a traditional music session
- Take the train out to Howth for a cliff walk
- Play a links course on the coast
Good to know: the weather changes by the hour, so pack a rain jacket in July too.
17. Prague, Czech Republic
- Best forbeer lovers, history fans
- TimeApril to June, September to October, December
- WhereCzech Republic
Prague is a beer city with a fairy-tale old town. Czech beer culture is the real draw: old beer halls, half-liter glasses and a brewery day trip that makes a beer fan very happy. Respect the locals and the old town is lovely, even at night.
- Spend an evening in a traditional beer hall
- Take the train to Plzeล for a brewery tour, about an hour and a half away
- Cross the Charles Bridge early in the morning before the crowds
- Visit Prague Castle and walk down through the Lesser Town
- Catch an ice hockey game in season (fall to spring)
Good to know: Prague is in the Schengen area. The EU now registers visitors at the border with a digital entry and exit system and plans an online travel authorization for visa-free visitors, so check the current rules before you book.
18. Queenstown, New Zealand
- Best foradrenaline fans, Australian bucks
- TimeDecember to March, June to September for skiing
- WhereNew Zealand
Queenstown is the bucks party destination for Australians who want more than a pub crawl. It's where commercial bungy jumping started, and the lake and mountains make every activity look dramatic.
- Jump from the Kawarau Bridge, where commercial bungy began
- Ride a jet boat through the Shotover River canyon
- Ski at Coronet Peak or The Remarkables in winter
- Take a long day trip or a scenic flight to Milford Sound
- Bike out to the wineries in the Gibbston Valley
Good to know: many visitors need an NZeTA before they fly, while Australian citizens don't. Check the rules for everyone in the group.
Bachelor party destinations by season
Most weddings fix the window. Here's where to go in each part of the year:
| Season | Good picks | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Winter (Dec to Feb) | Lake Tahoe, Banff, Big Sky, Colorado, Scottsdale, Las Vegas, Montreal for hockey | Ski season or desert sun, indoor sports |
| Spring (Mar to May) | Scottsdale, Moab, Myrtle Beach, Austin, Louisville, Prague | Spring training, mild temperatures, golf season |
| Summer (Jun to Aug) | Chicago, Boston, Bozeman, Denver, Lake Tahoe, Dublin, Montreal | Baseball, rafting, fishing, long evenings |
| Fall (Sep to Nov) | Austin, Moab, Myrtle Beach, Louisville, Las Vegas, Scottsdale from October | Football, cooler days, fall golf |
For Australian groups the seasons flip: Queenstown is a ski trip in June to September and an adventure trip from December to March.
Getting everyone there
The best bachelor party destination for your group is often the one with the simplest travel, not the most exciting photos. Before you decide:
- List where every guest lives. If most can drive there in three hours, that place has a big advantage.
- Look for direct flights from the cities where most of the guys live. One layover for one person is fine, three layovers for half the group isn't.
- Check passports right away for anything outside the US. Renewals can take a while.
- Add the airport transfer to the plan. Moab, Big Sky and Banff all need a car or a shuttle from the airport.
- Offer a short version. Someone with a new baby or a weekend shift might only make one night. Put the main activity on the day most people overlap.
Booking, rooms and splitting costs are covered in our guide on how to plan a group trip.
Pick the dates with the guys
For a trip, the date decides who can come. Here's a plan that respects the schedules that matter most:
- Name the core crew. The groom, the best man and the two or three friends without whom it wouldn't feel right. Their availability decides, everyone else's helps.
- Get the groom's blackout weekends and agree on a window, usually one to three months before the wedding.
- Check the anchor activity. Is there a home game? Is it ski season, rafting season, fishing season? Cross out weekends that don't work for the activity.
- Send one date poll covering the whole window. Include Thursdays and Mondays, so people can mark whether a long weekend works for them.
- Lock it within a week and ask for travel to be booked by a set date. Flights only get more expensive.
Quick one, no follow-up questions, I promise ๐ค
1. What's the one thing you'd want to do on your bachelor weekend?
2. What's the one thing you really don't want? And send me any weekends between April and June that are a hard no for you.
Before I send the big poll: Mike wants fly fishing, so it's Bozeman or Big Sky sometime in June to August. Which weekends are a hard no for you three? Just reply with dates, I'll leave those out.
Gentlemen ๐ฃ Mike's bachelor party is a fishing trip to Montana, June to August.
Tap every day you could make it, Thursday to Monday: [link]
Can only do two nights? Mark just those days. We go with the weekend the whole core crew can make. Deadline Friday.
Our free date poll covers step four. You set the window and drop one link in the group chat. Everyone taps the days they can travel and uses "if needed" for the maybes. The results show which stretch of days works for the most guys, so you only have to check that the core crew is in. Once you lock it, everyone can save it to their calendar. It counts days, not time slots, and nobody has to sign up or install anything.

A few house rules for the trip
A trip away is different from a night out: more time together, shared rooms, other people's rental. A few rules keep it good for everyone, including the person who has to explain things to the property owner:
- One guide day, booked and paid upfront. It's the backbone of the trip and nobody can drop out at the last minute.
- Driving is decided before the first drink. Tasting days get a driver or a tour.
- Read the rental rules. Noise limits and guest numbers are there for a reason and deposits are real money.
- Every activity has an opt-out. Not everyone wants to jump off a bridge in Queenstown. Somebody has to hold the camera.
- The groom's "please no" stands. Whatever it is.
If the couple is planning both parties at once, our bachelorette party destinations list different places, from Savannah to Sedona. And if the groom hasn't asked his groomsmen yet, the groomsman proposal ideas help with that first.
Frequently asked questions
What are the top places for a bachelor party?
Las Vegas, Scottsdale, Austin, Denver, Chicago, Boston, Lake Tahoe and Montreal are among the most common picks for US groups. Outdoorsy groups often choose Moab, Bozeman or Banff, golfers go to Scottsdale or Myrtle Beach. Further afield, Dublin and Prague are popular city trips.
What are the best bachelor party spots for a group that doesn't want to party hard?
Pick a place with one big daytime activity: fly fishing near Bozeman, mountain biking in Moab, a lake day in Tahoe or the Bourbon Trail from Louisville. Days like that wear people out in a good way and dinner becomes the highlight, not the club.
What are the best cities for a bachelor party in winter?
For warm weather, go to Scottsdale, Las Vegas, San Diego or Austin. For snow, Lake Tahoe, Banff, Big Sky and the Colorado ski towns are at their best from about December to March. Indoor sports help too: hockey runs through the winter in Chicago, Boston and Montreal, and Chicago and Boston have NBA games on top.
How far in advance should you plan a bachelor party trip?
Fix the dates three to six months ahead if people need to fly, then book the rental and any guided activity right away. Fishing guides, tee times on weekends and rafting trips in peak season can fill up early. A drive-to weekend can be planned in less time.
What are good bachelor party destinations outside the US?
Montreal and Banff are close for Americans, and a passport is usually all a US citizen needs. Dublin works for sports fans and pub lovers, Prague for beer and old-town history, Queenstown for adrenaline. Check travel documents early, because entry rules can change.
Is Las Vegas still a good bachelor party destination?
Yes, if the group likes shows, pools and a city that never closes. Vegas also has more to do than the casino floor: NHL and NFL games, golf, Red Rock Canyon and the Hoover Dam are all close. Avoid the summer heat and set a budget per night so nobody comes home broke.
